Bay Area Genealogical Society

Jean Nicolet Project

In 1984, the Bay Area Genealogical Society celebrated Wisconsin’s 350th Anniversary of the landing of Jean Nicolet at Red Banks by offering Commemorative Jean Nicolet Certificates to those individuals who could prove their ancestors were residents of Wisconsin for 100 years or more. Each of these files included pedigree sheets, as well as backup documentation proving this data.

The Bay Area Genealogical Society is now beginning a new project based on this documentation. We are working to compile a database of the names included in these pedigree files. We hope that the compilation will assist other researchers find their ancestors or perhaps find documents previously unknown to them. We are looking for individuals with laptop computers and Microsoft Excel who would be willing to work in the Local History & Genealogy Department at the Brown County Central Library entering this information into a database format. We have already worked through an outline of the data-base, we just need helping hands to enter the information into the database.

Anyone willing to assist with this project is asked to contact Jean Nicolet Chairperson.
